It’s easy to take for granted that we have a lightweight, waterproof surface called a tarpaulin (tarp) that we can fold up and put in our cars. Generations ago, settlers and pioneers would have paid a dear price for a tarp we can pick up at Walmart for $5 bucks.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The definition of a tarp is simply a large waterproof cloth. In the old days a tarred canvas would be the only option for waterproofing a cloth, but nowadays there are many more available materials, but most being an impermeable synthetic material.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Why do I need a tarp then? A tarp is an extremely versatile tool because of its lightweight, waterproof, and flexible characteristics. A few of the reasons you need a tarp for camping are these:<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n
